Safety & Rules

*** For your safety, please stay alert at all times! ***

  • Please note that the roads are not closed to traffic. Please stop at all Red or Amber Stop Lights and Stop Signs and proceed through the intersection when it is safe to do so. If an intersection is manned by a Police Officer, they are the only one with the authority to wave you through a Red Light or Stop Sign
  • Please remember to Ride SINGLE FILE at ALL TIMES
  • After Opening Ceremonies, thousands of Riders will embark on this epic 2-day ride - please get out on the route safely. Always ride predictably and in control. Ride in a straight line, and consciously try to avoid excessive weaving back and forth.
  • Cooperate with Ride Officials at all times.
  • Be patient
  • Sweep Assistance: If you are injured or unable to ride, use a “thumbs down” signal to stop a passing sweep vehicle. These vehicles are reserved for injured Riders and those unable to complete the day’s ride; they are not to be utilized as a taxi service. They will not go directly to Camp during the day. Sweep vehicles will take you to the next Pit Stop, where buses will take you to Camp. Only injured Riders will receive prompt medical attention and transport. If you are picked up early in the day, it may be hours before you are delivered to Camp. As it nears route closure time, sweep vehicles will pick up Riders who are still on the road.
  • Medical Emergencies: With any emergency, dial 911, if possible. Then, immediately report any medical emergencies to Ride Staff or Crew at Pit Stops, on sweep vehicles, at Camp, or in the Concierge Tent, whichever is most accessible. If you’re on the route, after you call 911, contact the official Ride (800) number imprinted on your Rider wristband to alert the Ride dispatch. Sweep vehicles rove the route on the lookout for accidents. Again, use a “thumbs down” signal if you need help. Staff are equipped with a 2-way radio and a mobile phone. They will have comprehensive information on local hospitals, emergency facilities, police, fire, and other important emergency information. Doctors, emergency medical personnel and an ambulance will be available.
  • Bike mechanics: During The Ride, while bike mechanics generously donate their time and labour, you are still responsible to pay for all parts used to repair your bike so be sure to have some cash with you on the event.

We encourage experienced Riders to join our Rider Safety Team click below for more information.

  • Practice safety to yourself and others on your team. Stay hydrated, make sure to eat throughout the day and protect yourself from the weather. Ensure to wear a hat if sunny and wear layers if it’s cold. Bring Rain Gear for the event weekend. The weather can shift quickly so please have a bag with you at all times with gear it in you may require throughout the entire day to remain safe and comfortable. These events run rain or shine so you want to be prepared.
  • If you see any unsafe behavior from fellow Crew Members or Riders, please do not hesitate to remind everyone to be safe and take care of one another. If you require assistance from your Team Captain or Staff member, please do not hesitate to do so. Safety is our first priority!
  • If you are driving a crew vehicle, please stay focused on the Road at all times. No headphones and only hands free phone systems must be used while driving.
  • All Crew must follow the rules of the roads, as the Ride does not receive any special privileges from local authorities.
  • In a situation of poor weather or emergency please remain calm and follow the direction from staff or local authorities. It is our job to remain calm and ensure the Riders remain safe at all times.
  • Remain in contact with Dispatch and answer their calls throughout the entire day. The Dispatch team needs to know you and your team is safe and has everything you need.
